Restoration of Tsoitson Lake

In Khuvsgul Province, the project "Reducing the desertification of Darkhad кhotgor and restoring Tsoitson lake in Renchinlkhumbe sum" was successfully completed. The project has yielded results, Tsoitson lake has water, and waterfowl have also arrived. In particular, there were about 300 rivers and lakes in the Darkhad khotgor, which forms the source of fresh water of Khuvsgul Lake, but it is believed that about 200 of them have dried up due to desertification. Also, in the late 1960s, due to a large flood, the lake dried up due to the change in the direction of the river that feeds the Tsoitson lake in the Darkhad khotgor. Russian scientists concluded that Tsoitson Lake has a 70 percent chance of recovery, and our country's scientists also concluded that it is fully possible to recover the lake. That's why "Prestige Engineering" company and "Institute of Geography and Geoecology of the Academy of Sciences" jointly carried out the project work in 2021-2022 by the order of the "Governor's Office" of Khuvsgul Province. As part of the project, a 403-meter dam was built in the Hodon River according to engineering solutions, and a channel was built to direct the flow, and the main channel flowed 10.6 km to the Tsoitson Lake to feed the lake. As a result, Tsoitson Lake, the third largest lake in Khuvsgul Province, was restored and 35 million cubic meters of water could be stored. As a result, the project was successfully implemented and Tsoitson Lake was restored. Also, there is an opportunity to revive the natural ecology of the Darkhad khotgor, which is the biggest source of nourishment for the Khuvsgul Sea, and the natural ecology of the lake.
